History
Maharaja Suraj Mal founded Bharatpur in 1733. This place is located in the region of Mewat. Initially, Bharatpur was the capital kingdom of Jat maharajas. Along with Bharatapur there are two more places that have contributed in the history of Rajasthan; these places are Dholpul and Deeg. Basically, Bharatpur is located around 50km west of the Agra city. The town was named after Bharata who was the elder brother of Lord Rama. The initial leaders of this place were Raja Ram, Gokula, Churaman, and Badan Singh. During the British time, the state had a cover area of 5,123 square kilometer and its rulers had the statues of 17 guns.
Sariska also has its roots in ancient history just like Bharatpur. Initially, this place was a Rajput state and people used to call it Mewat, Alwar. The rulers and people of Sariska did not accept any external interference like foreign invasions. In the end of 12th and beginning of 13th century they formed a group and attacked Delhi. However, in 1267 Sultan Bulban suppressed them and took the area under the Muslim rule. In 1771, Maharaja Pratap Singh took the charge of Sariska under his rule.
