History
The name of the Ranthambore National Park has its origins in the historic Ranthambore fortress that is situated amidst the park itself. It came into existence in 1955 and the honor goes to the Indian Government. Earlier it was considered only as a Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary but in 1973, the Government declared it as one of the Tiger Reserves. It got its present designation, the National Park in 1980.
Besides the wild life, Ranthambore is also a place where one can enjoy the beautiful architecture manifested in the many buildings that are part of this park. There is a massive fort and a number of towers located over the park. Additionally, the ruins of the previous eras can be seen scattered all over the forest. The park also holds a few water bodies that provide relief to the living beings in this dark forest.

Located on the upland and connected to the Banas River as well as Chambal River, this National Park covers an area of almost 392 square kilometer. It is a part of India’s “Project Tiger” reserves but there are other wild animals that can be found in this park. A tourist is probable to locate leopards, wild pigs, dhole, sambhar, Gaur, Chital, along with various other colorful reptiles and birds.
There are a few lakes too that lie hidden in this lush green forest. Nature can be seen in its best in this National Park. However, the population of the park is deteriorating with every passing year, the Government is still trying hard to improve the status. Yet, you can find the tigers roaming the forest without any fear of the humans or even of any human vehicle. This is the core reason that offers the tourists great thrill and adventure. The best view of the park can be seen from the junction at which Aravalli and Vindhya ranges meet.
