Goa is the smallest state of India in terms of area. The capital of this state is Panaji. Goa is located on the western coastal region of India known as Konkan. It shares its boundaries with Mumbai to the north and Karnataka to the south. It is also surrounded by the Arabian Sea in its west. The history of Goa started from 3rd century BC, when Mauryan Empire formed it. Later it was ruled by the Satavahanas of Kohlapur. Then it passes on to the Chalukya Dynasty. Later in 1312, Goa came under the governance of Delhi Sultanate. However, in 1498, Vasco da Gama became the first European who sat his foots in India through sea rout. Atthis time Goa was ruled by Portuguese and it got its freedom in 1948 and in 1987 Goa became the twenty-fifth state of India.
The initial name of Mumbai was Bombay. In 1953 the Portuguese reached this place from Bahadur Shah of Gujrat. Earlier, this property was on lease to the British East India Company in 1668. However, in 1955 the state of Bombay was re-organized and became the capital of Maharashtra. Thanks to the migrants, Mumbai soon overtook the legacy of being the most popular state of India from Kolkata.
